2nd edition of «P-BIO Pledge 4 COVID: Portuguese Bio Startups in the global response to COVID-19» takes place in Matosinhos

2nd edition of «P-BIO Pledge 4 COVID: Portuguese Bio Startups in the global response to COVID-19» will take place this Tuesday, May 19, at 2 pm, at CEiiA, in Matosinhos, with the presence of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor.

This initiative aims to stimulate the participation of Portuguese Startups in the area of Bioindustries in the global cooperation platform «Global Response to COVID-19» with the intention of national Startups emerging international networks and with the capacity of establishing international partnerships in the three pillars of the initiative:

  1. in the field of diagnosis, essential to the existence of an effective vaccine; Portuguese scientific and technological system is already actively participating in the development and realization of tests and diagnostic systems, including the use of nanotechnologies. We are in a position of excellence to contribute to the Global Fund for Innovative Diagnostics (FIND).
  2. in the field of therapies/treatment the national industry is actively involved in the production of critical components for antiviral medical therapies; Portugal is prepared to increase production capacity and contribute to the Therapeutic Accelerator at a global level (i.e. ACT Therapeutic Partnership).
  3. As for global action in the field of vaccines, the national scientific community is prepared to join forces with partners worldwide in the context of CEPI and GAVI, the coalition for preventive innovation against the pandemic, and, secondly, Portuguese pharmaceutical industry will also be in a position to participate in international partnerships for the production of this vaccine.

 “Global Response to COVID-19” platform, created in April, has already raised 7.5 billion euros to finance activities in the areas of diagnosis, therapies/treatment and development of vaccines to combat the pandemic, and brings together a set of European and world organizations, from the sectors of health, retail, banking, foundations, among others committed to the development of solutions to combat COVID-19.

Tuesday's session is organized by the P-BIO Portuguese Association of Bioindustry, with the support of the Government, and will be transmitted online.
