On April 26, the Covid A unit of the Hospital Geral (HG), at Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC), received an air sterilization equipment, the Pure Tower, offered by STREAK - Engenharia em Automação, Lda.

At the event, there was present the CHUC Administration Board, members of the Covid A Unit of Hospital Geral, Sérgio Correia and Peter Santos of the company STREAK - Engenharia em Automação, Lda., Joana Branco, Executive Director of Biocant - Transfer and Technology Association, where the equipment was certified, and Paulo Santos, Executive Director of the IPN Business Incubator, who has been supporting STREAK in financing innovation and incubation projects for the spin-off company that was created to explore this new business area.

Pure Tower is an equipment that generates an air flow, which allows sterilization through emission of UVC that produces a radiation dose 10 times higher than needed to eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with proven effectiveness in the elimination of other viruses, fungi and bacteria.

In November 2020, during the tests carried out by Biocant, the Pure Tower was assigned to HG from CHUC, being used in the Covid-B room, a room for changing personal protective equipment (PPE). In this way, it contributed for health professionals to feel more secure during this pandemic phase. The new device now moves to the Covid-A Unit.
